EarnIt is an iOS app that lets children earn screen time by completing chores. Parents set
up a family, choose chores, approve completed chores, and decide which apps are always
blocked. This Privacy Policy explains what information EarnIt handles, why, and the choices
you have.
The short version: EarnIt stores your family's account details, chores and
chore photos on Google Firebase so every device in the family stays in sync. Which apps your
child uses, and which apps you block, never leave the device — Apple's Screen Time system
handles that. We don't use analytics or advertising trackers, and we never sell your data.
Who This Policy Covers
EarnIt is used by parents, who create and manage a family, and by
children, who join a family using a code generated by a parent. A parent
creates each child's profile and decides what information it contains. If you are a
parent, you are responsible for the information you add about your children.
Information We Store
Parent accounts
Sign-in details — if you use Sign in with Apple, we receive the name and
email address Apple shares with us (which may be a private relay address). If you sign in
with an email link, we store your email address.
Profile — your display name and, optionally, an avatar (an emoji or a
photo you choose).
Child profiles
Display name and avatar — entered by a parent. The avatar can be an emoji
or a photo.
Chores and screen time — the chores available to the child, chores they
start and complete, approval or rejection decisions (including any reason a parent
gives), and the screen time earned and used.
Chore photos — a child may take or choose a photo to show a chore is done.
Photos are visible only to members of the family.
Time zone — used so chores expire and screen time is credited at the right
local time.
Requests — requests for web access and the parent's response.
Children do not need an email address or password. A child's account is linked to the
family using a one-time join code.
Family and subscription
Family membership — which parents and children belong to the family.
Subscription status — whether the family has EarnIt Premium. We never see
or store your payment card details; payments are handled entirely by Apple.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push notification token for your device so we can
tell you when, for example, a chore is submitted for approval or a request is made.
Information That Stays on the Device
Screen Time
EarnIt uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to block and unblock apps.
When a parent chooses which apps or categories to block, Apple gives EarnIt opaque tokens
rather than app names, and these are stored only on the child's device. EarnIt cannot see
which apps your child uses or for how long, and no app usage information is sent to us.
Face ID and passcode
EarnIt can ask for Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode before opening parental
controls. This check is performed by iOS. EarnIt only receives a yes/no result and never
has access to biometric data.
How We Use Information
To run the app: keeping chores, approvals and screen time in sync between family members' devices
To unlock screen time on a child's device when a chore is approved
To send notifications you have allowed
To provide Premium features to the whole family when any parent subscribes
To keep the service secure and prevent misuse
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or to train machine learning
models. Under UK data protection law, we rely on our contract with you to provide the
service, and on our legitimate interest in keeping it secure.
Service Providers
We use a small number of providers to run EarnIt. They process data only on our behalf:
Google Firebase — accounts, database, photo storage, server functions and
push notifications. See Firebase privacy.
RevenueCat — manages subscription status. It receives your account
identifier and your App Store purchase records. See
RevenueCat privacy.
Apple — Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases and Screen Time.
See Apple privacy.
These providers may store data on servers outside the UK, including in the United States.
Where they do, transfers are protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection
law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect which apps your child uses, or their browsing history
We do not collect location data
We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs
We do not show advertising in EarnIt
We do not sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers
We do not access your contacts, health data or biometric data
How Long We Keep Data
Completed chores — approved and rejected chores are deleted automatically
after 90 days, together with any chore photo.
Join codes — deleted once used or expired.
Accounts and family data — kept until you delete your account, a parent
removes a child, or the family is deleted.
Custom chores — chores a parent creates are kept with the family. If a
Premium subscription ends they are hidden, not deleted, until the family subscribes again.
Your Rights and Controls
Delete your account — you can delete your account from within the app
(Settings → Delete account). This permanently removes your account and the data linked to
it. If another parent is in your family, the family and your children's data stay with
them; if you are the only parent, the whole family is deleted, including your children's
accounts, chores and photos. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store
subscription; you can cancel in your device's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
Remove a child — a parent can remove a child from the family in the app,
which deletes the child's account, chores, photos and screen time history.
Notifications — turn them off at any time in iOS Settings.
Screen Time access — revoke it at any time in iOS Settings → Screen Time.
Access, correction and other rights — under UK data protection law you can
ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it.
Email us using the address below. You also have the right to complain to the
Information Commissioner's Office.
Children's Privacy
EarnIt is designed for families and is used by children under a parent's supervision. A
child's profile can only be created by a parent, and we collect only what is needed for
the app to work. Children's information is never used for advertising, never shared
outside the family except with the service providers listed above, and never sold.
If you believe a child's information has been added without a parent's consent, contact us
and we will delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Google Firebase. Access rules ensure that only
members of a family can read that family's data, and only parents can change family
settings. Subscription status can only be changed by our servers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the
"Last updated" date at the top of this page, and we will tell you in the app about any
significant changes.
